Once Upon a Time in the West must be the best western film ever made which is also an art film. Sergio Leone and Ennion Morricone worked together so that the film is integral to the music and the music is integral to the film. Each of the main characters has a theme so that for instance you know that the Charles Bronson character in the scene above is waiting in the background as soon as you hear that harmonica playing. Also the sound in the film is used to great effect. For instance in the above scene you might or might not notice the sound of the swinging lamp - the sound is being used to heighten the tension.

It's a film for film scholars to study to see how film can be used.
