We weren’t allowed to write with the left hand either ...

Neither were we....which is why I do everything but write with my left hand

We were SOOO enlightened in my day (well, before my day) as my older sister is a lefty and she was allowed to write left handed. In fact so enlightened that lefties were no longer forced to write with the natural 'right-handed' slope. I was right-handed back then.......and by the time  my operation made me change to left handed writing we were well past the 'learning to write' stage so no-one was bothering.
