Like I said earlier , the 70s was when education hit rock bottom 

80's wasn't much better, I remember a phase in my own children's school where 'spelling' and 'handwriting' was not deemed as important and the 'content' of mispelt badly written work was deemed as an expression because the child could read it to the teacher even tho the teacher was unable to read it themselves.

I agree Syd ....although my kids were lucky with their schools

It was here....spelling,reading and writing homework...attention to grammar and punctuation...marked down and given extra work if they didn't do it properly

I told mine I couldn't read it and gave them a dictionary and told them to show me when I could....

I remember at one point I told mine that if socks weren't pulled up then it was Notre Dame convent school for her, even left the brochure lying aroundπŸ˜‚
