A couple of days ago I bought two items from Amazon. At the time I proceeded through checkout as usual, or I thought so.

Today I found an email telling me of all the benefits of my new Amazon Prime subscription, all ÂĢ79 of it.

Now thinking back I know exactly where I went wrong, I must have missed the button which says "free delivery" and left it on whatever the website default is, which I presume is "I'd also like Amazon Prime".

Reading the small print I think that as the goods I purchased are awaiting me at my local post office, this constitutes use of the Amazon Prime Services, so any refund I get by going through the cancellation process will be a refund minus whatever Amazon decide to charge me for use of the service.

Now I'm wondering whether it would be better to stick with my mistake, use all the services and setup the cancellation for one years time or hope that any penalty fee they apply is not extortionate as I know Amazon are not the best at dealing with person to person.

What do my learned colleagues think (bear in mind the 14 day cancellation clock is ticking).

EC, I had a look at Amazon without logging in to have a look as what happened if I was going to order something.

There's a box which was unticked described as "Yes, I want a free trial with FREE One-Day Delivery on this order." with " " underneath. So it looks as if you ticked that box and didn't see that.

Perks of Amazon Prime seem to be ad free Prime Music, some of the video streaming is free, and for many items you get free deilvery within one day (in some larger towns and cities you might get same day delivery though that would depend on what time of day you ordered it. Note though that they are likely to use their delivery service rather than Royal Mail and that can be less reliable. The annual renewal is automatic with no notification to you until you see it on your credit card statement. So there are minuses as well as pluses.

I’ve got Amazon Prime and I love it. I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon, so the free, next day delivery more than compensates for the cost of Prime.

I watch programmes on Amazon Prime and listen to music on Amazon Music and read books for free , so I feel I get more than my money’s worth.

I guess it all depends on how much you shop with Amazon and whether you would watch the films and programmes on Prime and/or listen to Music.

If you’ve clicked on the free trial by mistake, just email them and they should sort it out for you.

I use Amazon, but not often enough to justify Prime membership, and I've been very annoyed in the past about how easy Amazon make it to sign up for their "Free Trial" by mistake.

I accidentally clicked on the "Free Trial" once, and found it a lot of hassle to find the right page to cancel from. (I was initially sent to a page which required my to print out the cancellation request and post it to them!  )

I eventually got the cancellation sorted out online, but I still had a whinge about it to my cousin, who uses Amazon a lot. She told me that she'd accidentally signed up for a Free Trial too, but had phoned them up (something I'd no idea you could do) and got it sorted immediately.

I don't have the number to hand, but from my cousin's experience it's probably worth looking into...

[Edit]

Jus noticed Kaytee's response, which refers to calling them too...

Prime is pants

How so?

Well my money was taken without my conscious consent .. let's say by stealth.

So I accepted to give it a go - it was rubbish, hopeless choice.

Next year they did it again - got a refund

Since then I've had 2 free month trials - still hopeless choice, especially movies.

Not sure how much they have improved but my experience means I will not be accepting anymore offers

I LOVE Amazon Prime, we pay #7.99 a month and in all honesty it saves us lots of ##s in delivery costs... plus next day?! I got my Amazon Beauty advent calendar today and i cant wait Dec 1st now.

Batteries - Amazon Prime, daughter's scientific calculator broke? - Amazon prime, toilet rolls? Amazon prime

I also like prime video, Lucifer is good etc.

Hi,

Kaytee, El Loro, Yogi, Baz, Moonie, Eugene, Rexi, Dame, Saint, Fluffy, Jen-star, Captvimes, and videostar.

Thanks for all your posts, advice and comments.

I did email them back straight away and have just found an email from them (to be fair to Amazon they were very quick in responding, so quick I missed the email!).

Anyway I explained what had happened and they said that they could see from my account that it was a mistake and I could either keep the subscription, cancel straight away or cancel before the renewal.

I just can't make good use of Prime, especially as In have most of my Amazon deliveries to a drop off point and can collect at my convenience and I don't have time for all of the music, film and TV on offer - maybe when I retire it would e of more use.

Sorry for the delay everyone.
