Good morning everyone it's supposed to be dry today but in contrast to other areas the rainfall we've had still didn't amount to much. They haven't mentioned reservoir levels recently but I think they must be low. I hope  Mr Y feels better soon.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

Good morning everyone

Raining here. In contrast to Squiggle's reservoir, the ones here would be full. Flood defences at Tewkesbury Mythe water works and Gloucester have been improved since the floods of 2007, so hopefully will mitigate the flooding when the rainwater coming down the Severn and Avon rivers merge at Tewkesbury over the next few days (takes a few days to flow from places like Shrewsbury).

Yogi, I hope Mr Y gets well very quickly and that you don't succumb

Summer, I did a quick Wiki search on that virus - it wasn't one that I had heard of before.

Ros, Faure's Requiem is my favourite

Yogi, I saw that car advert during BaKe Off and you were right, Audi Q8. Although the music is dramatic, it's not appropriate if you realise that Dies Irae is Latin for Day of Wrath (irate being derived from irae) and in the religious sense and for the requiem means Day of Judgement.

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning all.

Rained overnight and now dry and bright.

Thank you everyone, Mr Y feels much better this morning - which is a relief as we have plans to start decorating for my parents today.

As you say El, maybe not really appropriate music for the ad.

Have a good day, everyone

Yogi, I'm glad Mr Y feels much better and I hope the decorating goes well

I suspect the vast majority of people seeing that advertisment wouldn't realise why the music isn't really appropriate. The plus side of using it though is that people might try to find out where the music comes from.

The house a couple of houses from me used to be a 2 bedroom house but was bought by someone last year as a project and he did major extensions for it to become a 4 bedroom house. He put it up for sale and there's been a Sold sign outside for the last 2-3 weeks.

I was coming back from the post box just now and had a conversation with a retired couple who were looking at that house. It turns out that it's their twin daughters who have bought it subject to contract so the sale isn't definite yet. The mother is a retired accountant and both daughters are, one in practice and one a company accountant trainee. Both are fans of classical music. There would also be a third person living there who is yet another accountant trainee.

Morning all

Cloud and plenty of it. Good to read Mr Y has picked up and I hope you have too Yogi and that all are okay       Good luck with the decorating  - don't envy you both but 'twill be worth it when it's finished. Yeah, Moonie's notable by his absence - better be okay as we all know where he comes from, and it's a good place     Sweet, hope you're still living it to the max and Bramble's keeping you on your toes. There was a Christmas film on Movies 24 this week     Squiggle, I made a mistake the other day. I should have said I hope your great grandson is brightening your world. Moretonhampstead ain't bad. Somehow I don't think your world needs brightening though but every little helps      Ros, you'll be looking forward to the break - hope there's no work. Good to read the choir is going well and love that you meet Baz       El, hope all is okay and that you are enjoying the cricket. I'll keep an eye open for the Audi ad though why people want to buy these overweight tanks I'll never know. If you want to go off road buy a Defender. Still, total respect El

Have a good one everyone

Me too. As if a half to one ton shark is sensitive to a weak underwater punch to the beak. Your timing would need to be better than Mohammed Ali's

I see that Franco Zeffrelli, the film director, has died, he was 96.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-48648278
Probably best known film was the 1968 version of Romeo and Juilet. He also directed the television film with Robert Powell as Jesus of Nazareth in 1977.

He also directed quite a lot of film and television versions of operas, probably more than any ofher film director.

Good morning everyone

Expected to be a showery day here.

Yogi, I hope your decorating is going well and that you haven;t caught Mr Y's gastric bug

I hope everyone has a good day

Our church organist played the processional march music from Aida as his tribute to Franco Zefferelli this morning.
This is from one of Zefferelli's versions:

The specific music starts at 2 minutes 12 seconds and is quite well known.

Some sensational photos there and the first one is one which Summer in particular will love.

There are some little yellow boxes in the corners, I think probably to stop people from copying them.

Flying visit, I’m afraid.

Busy with decorating in the morning, then visitors in the afternoon and evening.

Busy few days ahead, so apologies in advance if I’m not around very much.

Goodnight and sweet dreams, everyone.

Hugs for any night owls

My a/v s/w is Avast Business Cloudcare which my local computer shop uses for its customers and it's channeled through them. I had noticed a week ago by chance thet the log.txt file was repeating an error message every 45 seconds (the s/w itself was working though). I contacted my local shop, installed an updated version which started producing a different error message. That went of its own accord but I found out that it had started again today,

So I contacted my computer shop. They rang back saying that they had been in touch with Avast and that someone from them would ring me direct. A few minutes they rang. I needed to give them access to my computer for this (Logmein which is a normal site for this). They did some digging around and identified many security issues with the network side of things. Apparently the a/v s/w deals with the computer but not the network so didn't pick these up. They would sort things out at a price. They started running a windows malicious remober tool which was going to take quite some time. I needed to let the computer run and it would take some 90 minutes after which they would ring me again.

During this I decided to ring the computer shop again to update them

TURN THE COMPUTER OFF IMMEDIATELY - THERE SHOULD BE NO CHARGES - SEEMS TO BE A SCAM

So I turned the computer off, unplugged everyrhing to take to the computer shop for them to check this out.  Just before I left the house the people who had contacted me rang and I told them what I'd done and made it clear that I would not pay anything to them.

Took it to the computer shop. Nothing too bad seems to have happened so it looks as if I was in time. I showed them the details of the compnay who had rung me - nothing to do with Avast. The computer shop man had done a Google search on the phone number and had been tricked into thinking this was the genuine number.

I'm getting them to replace the small c solid state drive with a larger one as it's too restrictive. At the same time I'll get them to switch from Windows 7 to Windows 10 as Microsoft support for Windows 7 end next January.

I've also been in touch with Virgin as the other possibility was that it's the Super Hub which has been compromised. They were able to check and said that it hasn't (I use it wired, not wireless where there's a greater risk). As it's a Super Hub 2 they are sending me a Super Hub 3.

So it's been a rather messy day.
