Someone has now worked out the first 31 trillion digits of pi:

It would take over 300,000 years for someone to read out those digits.

It's Pi Day today because March 14th is 3.14

What about the fastest super computer El?

The fastest super computer at present can do 143,500,200,795 floating point operations per second. So 31 trillion floating point operations would take about 216 seconds (3½ minutes). But it would take longer than that as to read a single digit would presumably take more than 1 floating point operation.

Good morning everyone

Cloudy here, there may be some rain.

A route has been chosen for the A417 at the dangerous section I've mentioned before:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-...cestershire-47556890
It does mean an end to the Air Balloon pub well known by ramblers on the Cotswold Way. It's believed to be so called as back in 1784 Edward Jenner flew there from Berkeley Castle.

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning everyone, another miserable morning with driving rain and strong winds, which is a picnic compared to tomorrow according to the forecasts!  I wish we still had TV programmes like Hill Street Blues nowadays.

Enjoy your day everyone

squiggle

Squiggle, I hope the weather for you turns out to be better than it currently is. At least it does became more settled and calmer from Sunday

I never got round to seeing Hill Street Blues

Here's a clip for a 1954 American TV programme which includes an advert for Hotpoint.

It's poor quality but is of interest as the "Happy Hotpoint" elf is a very early appearance of Mary Tyler-Moore, 17 at the time.

She may have started off small but would eventually become a giant in TV production with her husband Grant Tinker, for instance Hill Street Blues.

Welcome back, Summer I'm glad you had a brilliant time

All quiet here. Had a phone call from one of those computer scammers. Standard tricks used by them. Claimed that the errors shown on the event viewer were proof that there were problems on my computer. As with all Windows computers there are thousands of red and yellow error messages. Scammers claim this is proof - that's not the case. If there was a problem with your computer, a computer technical person might look at the error logs to see if they could identify the problem but it doesn't mean that all error messages are a sign of a computer problem. For instance many of the error messages on mine are on start up with the media player not connecting with my network streaming connections. As that's because my computer is not networked. Then there are error messages as my ASUS AI charger hasn't made any connections. That's because my ASUS computer isn't connected to anything such as an ipad requiring recharging,

The scammer also tried the ASSOC command trick - the one where they read out to you your computer ID as proof that they've had reports from your computer. That's the long hexadecimal number which starts with 88DCA60. As I've said before it's the same number on every Windows computer.

Good morning everyone

Gloomy weather, breezy, rained overnight and this afternoon & evening is forecast to be wet. Drier weather forecast from tomorrow as the jet stream has moved.

Great photos, Moonie

I hope everyone has a good day

Back from my shopping unscathed (and not because of the gusts of wind - around 50 mph).

Just after I left the car park to drive home a car whizzed past in front of me at the traffic lights controlled roundabout. Definitely sailed through red lights as the lights in front of me had been green for several seconds so not marginal. There are no cameras at those lights otherwise the driver would have got caught.

Then as I was nearly home I saw a car waiting at the exit of the school, That's on the right hand side of the road. Suddenly it pulled out to my side of the road. If I hadn't done an emergency stop that car would have collided with mine. It missed my car by just over a foot. Clearly the driver had looked to their right but not to their left before pulling out. As it's gloomy I had the lights on so clearly that driver was careless. I think the driver realised that they had made a mistake as they flashed their rear lights later on.

I'm recording a 1953 film called "The Man Between" today. It's not "Odd Man Out" (though both have James Mason in) and it's not "The Third Man" although both are set in post-war Europe and concern shady characters. All three films were directed by Carol Reed and have similarities so a sort of trilogy.  "The Man Between" doesn't have the classic status of the other two but I'm watching it to tick off my list of Carol Reed "Man" films. The other "Man" films by him are "Our Man in Havana" and "The Running Man" which I've also seen so it completes the set

you were very lucky EL thank  goodness you reacted in time

Good morning everyone

Some sunshine here, less windy than recent days, weather seems more settled now though there may be some showers.

Thanks Ros It's not often that I have to do a real emergency stop. I think if the first incident had resulted in an accident the druver who went through the red lights would be regarded as dangerous whereas the one where I had to stop the other driver would be regardless as careless,

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning a sunny start here, much better than yesterday. Work has been busy, and I think I’ve caught up on enough sleep now just bookkeeping to do later and then I’m free to enjoy the evening. A walk with bramble & friends is definitely top of today’s activities (after yoga & breakfast, of course

El, I’m really glad you didn’t end up colliding with that car, and that they at least realised they’re mistake and apologised. I’m glad you’re alright

~Sparkling Summer~

At church this morning just before the service started the organist was playing some music as usual. Someone wondered what the music was. So I told her it's St Patrick's Day and the organist was playing the Londonderry Air (Danny Boy)

Happy St Patrick's Day everyone

Good morning everyone

Rather cloudy here and may have some more rain though not a lot. Even a small amount will make it the wettest month in my area since May last year.

Yogi, all is well

Summer, I'm glad you had a good walk yesterday

I hope everyone has a good day

Ros, my church could have had "Lord of All Hopefulness" or "Be Thou my Vision" yesterday but didn't. They are set to Slane which is my favourite of Irish melodies for hymns. Slane is a folksong named after the Hill of Slane where St Patrick lit an Easter fire in defiance of a pagan king.
