Good morning I’m away visiting friends & family, and having a lovely time catching up with everyone

How are you all?

It’s very windy here this morning

What a terrible shame about that fire!

~Sparkling Summer~

Good morning everyone

Wet and windy here. The forecast has another bout of wet and windy weather on Saturday but after that has passed the weather in this part of the country is forecast to be more settled.

Yogi, I hope you have a good day with the tiddlers

Summer. I'm glad you are having a nice time visiting friends & family

I hope everyone has a good day

Moonie, I've just returned from doing my shopping (things like bread & milk so no cake )

Thoroughly wet out there but I took care not to splash any pedestrians as I drove past.

Quite calm just now. Coming down later though.

Hope all stay safe.

And we had a two hour power cut last night as a bonus.

That’s damn bad luck twickers

Let's you think

Twickers, 20th July 2007 was the day it rained forever here. That was bad enough with the immediate flooding but worse was to follow. The flood waters coming down the rivers reached here by the 22nd causing widespread flooding. By the 23rd the flood waters knocked out an electricity substation affecting much of the city. My power was restored after a couple of hours but my mother was without power until the following day. I took round a kettle of just boiled water to her house so that she could have something hot to drink. By the 24th the water supply to much of the county was cut off due to the water treatment works having been submerged. We had to rely on bottled water to start with before water bowsers were set up for people to get water from. The water was eventually restored on 7th August.

Although the substation was out of action for a time, the army and volunteers were able to prevent a larger substation being submerged. It was a close thing - the flood waters reached half an inch from wiping out that substation. If they hadn't succeeded the result would have been the largest evacuation of people since the Blitz.

Since then a massive amount of work has been done with the hope that something like that can't happen again. For instance greater protection at the water treatment works and the substations. Also there's a huge underground storm tank in the city which collects excess rainwater and releases it once the water levels ease.

The elements are good El. I like them. But they can take over at times.

Evening all

Gareth is raging atm, heavy rain and strong winds.

Bad luck about the power cut, Twickers.

Thanks everyone, I did have a good day with the tiddlers - we made pancakes

Summer, I’m glad you are enjoying your trip to family and friends

Good morning everyone

Breezy here and there may be some rain but nothing exceptional.

Yogi, I'm glad you had a good day with the tiddlers

I hope eevryone has a good day and that Gareth doesn't cause problems for you

El Loro

Good morning everyone

Gareth has been and gone and, as far as I can tell, there has been no damage.

I hope he didn’t cause any problems for any of you?

Got some errands to run today.

Have a good day, all.

Yogi19

Yogi, I'm glad to hear that you've escaped the worst of Gareth

If there are any further named storms this season, the next one would be Hannah and the following one Idris. I had a teacher whose first name was Idris - he was Welsh and in his case that's a Welsh name. By the way, it's Idrissa Elba - Idris is a shortening.

Good morning everyone

Overcast and rainy here.

Idris Elba is currently making a film version of Cats. He is playing Macavity who is also known as the Napoleon of Crime. Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled to the island of Elba.  Just a strange coincidence.

I hope everyone has a good day

Good morning all

Very heavy rain overnight and still heavy showers this morning. When I’m out and about, I’m expecting  lots of surface water on the roads.

Have a good day, everyone.

Yogi19

Good morning everyone, still very high cold winds here, I will be glad when they die down, somehow it's very tiring when the wind keeps howling.  I hope it's a lot calmer where you all are.

Enjoy your day everyone

It's Pi Day today because March 14th is 3.14

What about the fastest super computer El?

The fastest super computer at present can do 143,500,200,795 floating point operations per second. So 31 trillion floating point operations would take about 216 seconds (3½ minutes). But it would take longer than that as to read a single digit would presumably take more than 1 floating point operation.
