Good afternoon Moonie

Here it's cloudier than it was but there's still a fair about of blue sky. Like for you, cool rather than warm.

Hi El

Better late than never

I’ve just been out and it really cold out there already

Good job I still have my winter duvet on

Moonie

Good morning everyone

Its sunny for now but cold and breezy

Washing on the line. Just a quick trip down the road later to get some milk

Sweet, I hope you enjoyed your cuppa

Yogi, I hope you have a nice time with your parents and that they are okay

Likewise with your middle son and DiL 🙂

El, your weather is much like mine

Enjoy your day everyone

Moonie

Yogi, I hope you have a nice time with your visitors

Moonie, your post reminded me that last Saturday I got some milk from M&S. It was described as Welsh milk rather than their usual English milk. It tasted exactly the same. I wonder if, for instance, Scottish M&S stores have Scottish milk.

It may be as a result of Dairy Crest buying a milk dairy in Wales back in 2013 which had gone out of business. It supplies milk to the likes of M&S. It's intended for shops in Wales rather than England. There were only a few plastic bottles of it last Saturday, most were English. It's possible that there was an error in the deliveries. Although we are in England, Wales isn't a huge distance away, about 45 miles,

Although Cheltenham would guarantee safety with just a drawer this afternoon (there's another 4 matches to go after today) they can't be expecting much. They have the toughest match of the season, away to Lincoln who are clear at the top and could clinch promotion if they win, and could even become League 2 champions though much less likely today.

I think that may be wishful thinking  Cheltenham are a goal down at half time.

Yep, you wuz right

A day where both sides are happy. The results from other sides mean that Lincoln is promoted and Cheltenham are guaranteed to survive (not that that's been in much doubt for some weeks) with 4 games to go

Good morning everyone

It's sunny here at presemt, chilly outside at present.

Squiggle, I thought that could be the case with your milk

As I've mentioned before, years ago I had a dream about the lottery winning numbers and remembered them when I woke up - 8,8,8,8,8 and 8

I hope everyone has a good day

I'm recording a film on Talking Pictures this afternoon called "The Halfway House". It's a 1943 British film about a group of travellers who shelter in an old inn during a storm. The travellers have various personal problems. The innkeeper is a bit mysterious. It's a fantasy film.

It's a film of its time but I'll see what it's like. It would be wrong to compare it to Dead of Night made a couple of years later but I wonder it lead to that film.
Both films were made by Ealing Studios,
THH was directed by Basil Dearden (and Alberto Calvacanti), both of whom directed segments of DON.
Some of the contibutors to the writing worked on both films.
Mervyn Johns and Sally Anne Howes were in both films.

Glynis Johns, Mervyn's daughter, is in THH playing his daughter.

Although Ealing Studios are best known for their comedies, they did make quite a lot of serious films. Besides the two I mentioned earlier they made various war films such as "Went the Day Well", the extraordinary film made in 1942 about an English village being invaded by Germans, ultra serious and scarily believable. Then "It Always Rains on Sunday" (1947) which is a foreunner of kitchen sink dramas which started about 10 years later. "Scott of the Antarctic" (1948). "The Blue Lamp" (1950). Some other later films, the last of note being "Dunkirk" (1958).  The studio ceased for many years but did start again though I don't think anything as good as those films.
