They do the same with dairy calves. I remember staying at my dad’s friend’s farm and a newborn calf being separated from its mum.

No.
I don’t really want to tell you this but male calves don’t get kept by the dairy farmers, only females.
awwwww would hate to hear that pitiful cry and poor male calves
