Have you seen the TV series? Still stands up strongly IMO - especially the "computer graphics" which were actually done by stop-motion animation but still look better than the real computer graphics used in the film...

To be fair, the TV series had the advantage of being essentially a direct adaptation of the original radio series (which of course pre-dates the books... ninja ), and retained most of the cast: IIRC, the only significant change was Sandra Dickinson being brought in to play Trillian.
