The Hopman Cup at Perth, Australia, starts on January 1st. It's the opening tournament for the 2017 season. 2 players from 8 countries in 2 groups. Round robin basis for the groups, 1 men's singles, 1 women's singles and 1 mixed doubles. The winners of the two groups play in the final (no semi-finals in this 1 week tournament),

The British team is represented by Heather Watson (who is the regular choice for the Hopman Cup) and Dan Evans for the first time, previously it was Andy Murray.

Britain's opponents are Switzerland, France and Germany. Roger Federer is the best known participant.
