The Midland Hotel is at the corner of Roman Road and Gloucester Road near Cheltenham railway station. You don't go past it if one is driving from Gloucester to the centre of Cheltenham. Gloucester Road ends at the lower High Street. That part of the High Street came into existence before Cheltenham became a spa town and before the Regency buildings were built. The better known part of the High Street was created years after the lower High Street.
