The film "Unchained" made in 1955 was an American crime drama, mainly set in a men's prison. It's quite brutal and tough in places. You won't find it on a DVD in this country and I don't think it was ever released here. The main character in the film has a wife who sometimes visits him - she's the only person who may be familiar to you - Barbara Hale who played Della Street in the Perry Mason series.
I've discovered the film on the vimeo site:
The famous song "Unchained Melody" is from this film, hence the title. Composed by Alex North. The theme occurs from time to time during the film but the song itself is at 1 hour 2 minutes 30 seconds. It's sung by Todd Duncan.
Unless you don't mind brutal beatings up, I wouldn't watch the film as such, just from the time I mention. The song lasts just over 60 seconds but it's worth watching just for that gem.
