Lol ...I’ve just realised that I’ve been confusing this with the family cooking programme that was on last year ....with Rosemary Shreger ....this is totally new , isn’t it ....how daft am I

I think it likely that a lot of people have got Britain's Best Home Cook confused with the Big Family Cooking Showdown (which was on BBC2 rather than BBC1).

BBHC has the 10 contestants to start with, then 1 is eliminated at the end of each episode with 3 left by the final I think. They are cooking in one place which has been subdivided into small kitchens.

Each episode, the judges set a challenge to cook a home favourite - tomorrow it's the ultimate burger. The second challenge is a bit of an invention test - the judges  give two choices, the cooks who did best with the first challenge decide which of the two choices is chosen and then all the cooks have to cook something baed on that choice. The judges decide who has done best and go straight through to the next round. The others have to cook again with one leaving at the end.

So it's rather like Masterchef though with the emphasis on home cooking so the contestants closer to people who were in Big Family Cooking Showdown.

It was originally going to be called Britain's Best Cook but that's been changed to make it clear that the contestants are home cooks, not professional chefs.
