It occurs to me that there is a serious gap between what the political punditry think the people think or would like to think what people think and what people actually think.

I don't really like Ken Livingstone but I've read his comments and while being badly phrased, they certainly don't merit the slur of Nazi apologist by John Mann yet there seems to be broad agreement that it was ok for him to make that slur.

Seems to me that Livingstone is a handy stick to take the heat off Cameron and the likes of Philip Green.  I note that Guardian isn't taking reply comments on its stories regarding this.  Could it be that they're are totally out of step with their readership?

So it's all right for Cameron to massively increase arms sales to the Saudi regime that stones women to death for adultery and was linked to 911 when Iraq really wasn't but Ken gets hung out to dry for a few poorly worded comments.

I agree its a distraction tactic. From my rusty schoolroom history [apologies ] I vaguely remember that before The Final Solution, Hitler did want the jews to ship out and start their own country. Ken should have known a complex issue would be misinterpreted and it would be awful PR.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but the Final solution was the extermination of the Jews. Hitler wanted to ship the Jews from Germany to Madagascar, but realised it would be too lengthy & expensive, decided killing them all would be easier.

Your probably thinking of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haavara_Agreement

It wasn't so much that Hitler supported zionism, it was more a case of seeing an opportunity to get rid of some people he saw as undesirable.

Exactly....he wanted to create a master race, and saw Jews as beneath him

Yes I think so Cinds. Also I think a lot of countries wouldn't take in the jewish people trying to flee, which held things up.

Yes, exactly right. Thanks Kimota

I don't believe for one minute KL is anti semitic, he worded it wrongly and in fact what he said was actually correct. I've never been a Livingstone fan, although I have agreed with a lot of what he's said in the past, but I thought Mann was disgusting and the likes of him I can do without.

It's the Blitterite agenda, fuelled by the right wing press and Cameron gloating in the other corner...I'm more worried statements from the Tory side of the house that have a nasty undercurrent...Cameron, Boris and Zac...nothing in the rightwing press about their comments.

I am amazed that a wily old fox like Livingstone made such a gaffe, or did he know darn fine what he was doing? I wonder

not sure Kaytee if it was meant or not, but the post that the Labour MP was suspended for was actually a from a Jewish activist, so I can see why he stuck up for her and I think it's a shame that if you speak out about Palestine you're classed as anti semitic  ...you couldn't make all the fuss up if you tried

This mostly!  I do think Livingstone has a bit of anti-semitism in him but for Mann to shout "Nazi apologist" at Livingstone was a disgrace.  Mann should be booted out of the Labour Party!

Only yesterday Zak Goldsmith implied that Sadiq Khan was a terrorist sympathiser because he was Asian and a Muslim   This kind of dog whistle racism goes unchecked while the media vultures pick at the Labour Party.

Ken was absolutely right in what he said however we in the Labour Party have to be absolutely bomb proof. We seem to have attracted one or two undesirables and have kicked them out where necessary. I thought the delightful Ms A had it about right.

Isn't that the point that the Labour Party has to be twice as competent and twice as ethical to even be regarded by our media as half as competent and half as ethical as the Tory Party?

Remember how long Blair's honour to Bernie Ecclestone ran in the media?   People were still going on about it 8 years latter.  Yet Cameron honours Lynton Crosby for running a dirty tricks campaign against Labour and the media only cares for a week.

How is running a dirty tricks campaign for the Tories worthy of an honour?  That's not in the country's interest.  That's in the Tory Party's interest.  How has it benefited the country?  Obviously Tories will be pleased that there is a Tory government, but the honours system shouldn't function as a wing of the Tory Party.
