The new Doctor Who companion is to be revealed during the half time interval during tomorrow's FA Cup semi-final on BBC1 at approximately 18.00.

As Peter Capaldi has said ""Now we have someone who knows very little about the Doctor." that would seem to rule out Maisie Williams, There has been speculation that it may be Rakhee Thakrar (Shabnam Masood from Eastenders). Could it be Maddy Hill (Nancy Cartter who leaves Eastenders today - a coincidence or not ?

Shabnam from Eastenders or Nancy from EastEnders would have both been good choices but it seems not.  Sorry don't know the actresses' real names but they were strong, well acted, and IMO, quite likeable characters in EastEnders. Don't know anything about the actual choice so I guess it's just wait and see.

I see this as a make or break season for Doctor Who. In my experience talking to friends and colleagues, Capaldi has got a mixed reaction, with some drifting away from the show and my niece and nephew have both stopped watching having been regulars.

Such a shame they could not keep Clara (can't remember her name). But hey things change, like the size of chocolate bars.

I saw it, kinda underwhelmed.

Me too.. but as always with Doctor Who , I'll give it a chance.   I'm one of what seems like a few that actually like Peter Capaldi.

I will too Kaffy and I like PC myself, but I'm not sure all of the stories have been great for him and he really needed his first series to 'find his Doctor' character.

I like Peter Capaldi too but I'm an adult who's quite into existential concerns on the nature of being but I sometimes find it hard going - which is good because I like that challenge.  I was a bit like that as a kid, though! Maybe it's target audience would rather have a different type of doctor with an alien villain of the week to outwit.

Peter Capaldi has revealed how a theatre trip to see the new Doctor Who companion turned into a test of his acting skills.

The actor went to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in early April - before Pearl Mackie was announced as his new co-star.

When he was invited to meet the cast after the show, Capaldi and Mackie had to pretend they had never met.

In reality they'd already filmed a top secret scene together with the Daleks.
