Plans are underway for a census of all live music in 7 cities in England and Scotland. It will be for a period of 24 hours from midday on Thursday 9 March. It will be held in Glasgow, Newcastle, Oxford, Leeds, Birmingham, Southampton and Brighton. It will cover all gigs from street performers and choirs to pop bands in arenas.

It's described as a "Springwatch for music," and the project will be conducted by the universities of Edinburgh, Newcastle and Glasgow.

They aim to discover the challenges facing artists and venues at a time when live music is under pressure.

There will also be an online survey for people to say how much they have to spend and how far they have to travel to see their favourite artists. It will launch on the same day.
