I'd forgotten about this and had to check the details, but yes: that's right.

Susan discovered she had lung cancer during her absence from Broadchurch (if you remember, she wasn't in the final episode of the 1st series), but returned in the 2nd series to attend the trial and accuse her son of murdering Danny. This was an attempt to "put things right" before her death, but ironically helped the real killer to walk...

Thanks Yogi and Eugene kiss ...I have to admit I missed a couple of episodes of the second series cos tbh I found it quite boring ...unlike most of series 1 and series 3
